IMELDA Unpublished Photographs of the Philippines’ Former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos
IMELDA ROMUALDEZ MARCOS, the fabulous former First Lady of the Republic of the Philippines, has been known as the “Steel Butterfly” perhaps for her perceived power and influence behind the late strongman, President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
But behind the façade is a loving and lovely woman who played different roles aside from being the First Lady. She was a topnotch ambassador for her country, governor of Metro Manila, Human Settlements Minister, assemblywoman, a patron of the arts, and an able political partner of the President.
Beyond this public face, however, is the less known side of this powerful woman — a loving wife and mother, and a loyal friend who did her best to squeeze family and personal life to her very tight schedule as a public figure. This collection of photographs taken by veteran lensman Emmanuel “Jolly” M. Riofrir during his stint as special events photographer assigned to the First Couple aims to show both these facets of her public and private lives.
